How do I set up Carrots&Cake?

Click “Get Started” for first-time users. Log in if you already have an existing account.

There is a short tutorial on how Carrots&Cake works. You may skip if you already know how to use Carrots&Cake.

First kids need complete their Carrots - learning apps.

After kids complete their Carrots, they get Cake - free screen time!

An 'Allow Notifications' pop-up will show after the tutorial. Allowing Notifications ensures Carrots&Cake can alert kids on their remaining time.

Click ‘Select Learning Apps’ to start set-up. It will take 5-10 minutes. You only need to do it once per device.

You must ‘Allow Screen Time’ to enable Carrots&Cake to follow your progress. Apple ensures all your data stays private and secure.

Click ‘Continue’ on the Apple pop-up to access Screen Time.

Enter your child’s name and birth year. That way we can suggest fun learning apps!

Click ‘Education’ then select the apps you want to set as Carrots. Do not select all the apps in this category. At least one must not be selected. We recommend choosing 2-3 to start.

These apps are tested by our team of experts. Click ‘I have downloaded the apps above’ after downloading them. You may also proceed with the apps already on your device and click ‘I already own apps’.

After choosing your Carrots, click Continue.

Name your Carrots so your child can identify their tasks. Choose how long you want your child to spend on each Carrot.

Next, click on 'Set Restrictions'.

Let’s keep kids safe and learning distraction free. Select ‘All Apps & Categories’.

Carrots&Cake blocks uninstallation and Safari by default.

Set your child’s Cake Time. This is their free screen time when all apps unblock.

Almost done, click ‘Activate Schedule’ to start using Carrots&Cake.

Choose a password and hand your child the device. Congratulations! You just took control of screen time and your family is building healthy habits!

Connecting Apps & Account

What are Carrot Apps & Carrot Time

Carrot Apps are learning apps your child must complete before they can access Cake Time. Carrot Time is the amount of time you want your child to devote to learning.

How can I choose apps as Carrots?

1. Click “Select Carrot Apps” button on your homepage

2. Allow Screen Time Access.
Allow the screen time permission by clicking “Continue” on the pop-up.

3. Create a Child Profile.
Enter your child’s name and Year of Birth (YOB). This will help us in recommending apps that are suited for your child.

4. Select your Carrots
Choose the educational apps your child must complete each day by selecting them from our suggestions list, or you can choose from our recommended apps by clicking “I already have apps.” Keep in mind when you choose the apps, you need to choose the individual apps, not the whole category.

5. Name your Carrots and set up Carrots time
You can put nick name for your Carrot apps so you can identify them and set the appropriate time for your child.

What is Cake Time

This is the free time your child gets to spend online and express agency. This is when the previously blocked apps unblock. Carrots&Cake makes sure all inappropriate content is blocked.

How can I choose apps as Cake?

1. Select your Cake apps
Select the apps to block during your child’s learning time - we recommend that you select all apps.

2. Toggle on Safari block
This will forbid kids from accessing entertainment website like youtube or netflix via Safari.

3. Toggle Carrots&Cake uninstallation
This will forbid kids from uninstalling Carrots&Cake.

4. Set up Cake Time
Set the appropriate time for your child to enjoy screen time

and you're done!

Safari, App Store, and Uninstallation Blocking?

You can toggle off and on Safari blocking as well as Carrots&Cake app uninstallation. App Store will automatically be blocked when Carrots&Cake Schedule is active.

Which apps can my child use?

Carrots&Cake works with all apps on the Apple App Store as well as any app you already have downloaded on your device.

Activating Schedule & Account Creation?

The first time you activate the schedule, you will be asked to create an account. Your account email and password can be used on any device. It allows you to access the Parent Zone, edit your child’s schedule, and add additional child profiles.

I can't see the timer for my Carrots&Cake time?

Due to Apple Screen Time limitations, we can't display a timer. Push notifications are sent to children as they reach the end of their Carrot&Cake time to prepare them to come offline.

Why do you require Screen Time Access?

Carrots&Cake works with Apple’s Screen Time API. We rely on Screen Time Access to determine how far along a child is in their Carrots&Cake time, recommend new apps, and update you and your child with progress reports. Apple protects all of your data.

What if I get an error when I allow Screen Time Access?

If you can't set up Screen Time Access, you may have an extra profile installed or have enabled Apple Screen Time Access on another app.

Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. Uninstall the extra profile.

Go to Settings > Screen Time > Apps with Screen Time Access > Toggle off the other apps that have access to Apple Screen Time

After that, you can come back to Carrots&Cake app to allow access again.

Return Carrots&Cake and allow Screen Time Access again.

Editing Schedule, Pin Code, Uninstallation

Edit Schedule

To edit your child’s schedule, go to Schedule on the top right of the screen. Enter your password. Follow the directions beside your child’s name. Remember to click Update Schedule before exiting.

Change Password

To change your password, go to Schedule on the top right of the screen. When you are asked to enter your password, tap ‘Forgot Password?’.

What happens after my child's schedule is complete?

After your child completes Carrots&Cake all apps will be blocked until the next day. If this is a shared device, parents can unblock all apps by clicking ‘Take back my device’.

Can children repeat their schedule to get more Cake Time?

If you want your child to have additional time online, you can choose to repeat the schedule. Click Schedule on the top right of the screen. Key in your password. Tap ADD/EDIT beside the Learning Schedule. Now select Repeat.

How do I uninstall Carrots&Cake?

Click on Schedule and enter your password. Click ADD/EDIT beside Device Restrictions. At the bottom of the screen, toggle off Block uninstallation. Click Continue then Save Changes. Now you can uninstall Carrots&Cake by holding down the app icon key on the home screen.

Adding additional devices and children

Multiple Devices with one account

You can log in to multiple devices with just one account. Click ‘Log In with existing account’ when launching Carrots&Cake.

Adding additional children to one device/account

Currently we only support one child per device. However, you can use the same account on multiple devices for different children.

Do I need to set up everything again on each account?

All Carrot and Cake apps are limited to the downloaded apps available on your current device. You must allow Screen Time Access for each new device.

Subscribing to a package

How do I subscribe?

Once you complete your free trial period you can subscribe to a package. Click on Parent Zone > Account > and enter your password. Click upgrade. Choose a package to allow your kids to continue developing healthy screen time habits with Carrots&Cake.

Do I need multiple Carrots&Cake subscriptions for different devices?

Carrots&Cake will work on all of your iPads and iPhones with iOS 16 or later. One subscription is good for your entire household.
